Product Description

Another new, custom 2015 build, a masterpiece from Charlottesville, Virginia-based Rockbridge Guitars. The slope shouldered dreadnought is similar to a standard dreadnought, but with a wider lower bout and a more rounded upper bout.  This instrument, in style, is faithful to the great Gibson J-35 of the late 1930’s, plus more: old-growth Brazilian Rosewood, with remarkable landscaping. (No slab, reject, stumpwood, or the other visually flashy but structurally inferior types of brazilian that luthiers try to pass off in today’s world.)

Big big tone, volume, projection. Great sustain, ringing trebles, and yes most importantly string separation. And note that the thin finish used recreates– as no other maker I’ve seen– that wonderful hand-rubbed look of the great Gibson sunburst finishes of the 1930’s. And for these guitars (this and the Custom Smeck listed separately) we decided to go with an ebony fretboard– it’s a great improvement over the old, second tier wood– the Indian rosewood– Gibson used on their 1930’s guitars.
